Sonicwall Firewalls Recommended Configuration

Sonicwall Firewalls Recommended Configuration

Problem:

What changes do I need to make to my sonicwall firewall for VOIP2320's service?

Hardware Type:

Resolution:

There are a few simple changes that will need to be made to most Sonicwall firewalls in order to allow them to work with our service. Although different versions of the Sonicwall Operating System may place these settings in different places, the following steps will allow you to ensure your device will work with the phones.

The VoIP Tab

Enter the router's web interface (usually 192.168.1.1, defaults 'admin' and 'password',) Go to the VoIP tab (or Firewall > VoIP depending on the configuration.) Here, you will need to do the following:

1. Near the top of the page, make sure Enable Consistent NAT is checked.

2. Further down the page, make sure Enable SIP Transformations is unchecked.

Firewall Rules

Go to Firewall > Access Rules, and click Add at the bottom left. Create a rule with the following information:

Action: Allow
Service: Any
Source: WAN, Address Range 216.241.190.1 to 216.241.190.254
Destination: LAN, Address Range * to *
Comment: VOIP2320
Note: If your security level prevents outbound traffic as well as inbound, you will need to create an outbound rule that parallels the above settings.

Note: If there is an option for "Allow Fragmented Packets" when you are setting up the firewall Access Rule, please ENABLE that option.
