Sound Quality - Static on Calls

Sound Quality - Static on Calls

Problem:

How can I fix static on my calls?

Hardware Type:

Resolution:

Hearing static on a call is usually related to a malfunctioning piece of phone hardware. This can include the handset on the phone, any headset you may be using, or any cables.

If you are experiencing the static through only one phone try the following steps:

1) Switch from the handset/handset/speaker phone throughout the call. If only one of these causes the audio issue, then you know that device is malfunctioning. You will need to acquire a replacement to resolve the problem.

NOTE: Very commonly wireless headsets cause audio issues, especially if they are low on battery charge. As well, with headsets it is more common to experience audio issues with the more inexpensive devices.

2) Change out the network cable or curly handset cable on the phone. Occasionally these cables can get a short in them which will cause sound quality issues.

If you are experiencing the static through all the phones at the location.

1) Conduct a network restart to make sure that everything in your network is in sync.

2) Swap out all the "critical" cables in the network.

Critical cables: These are the cables that all traffic gets routed through. Such as the single cable between your modem and your router. Or the cable that goes from your router to your switch.
