Watchguard Firebox Firewall

If you have a Watchguard Firebox firewall as part of the network on which your Voip phones operate, there are a number of small adjustments that need to be made in order to ensure that the device does not cause any issues.

User Control

Watchguard Firebox firewalls occasionally have a “User Access Control” function that must be turned off. Configuration of this function is located in the web interface, through the navigation menu. When enabled, the “User Access Control” option will require a username and password from each device that logs onto the network. Vocalocity’s phones are incapable of providing this. If you see this function, you should disable it.

UDP Timeout

For Watchguard Firebox firewalls, you may need to add the following parameters in the Firebox’s config file:

options.masquerade.udp.timeout:

options.services.dynamic.timeout.udp:

Watchguard Policy Manager

If you use Policy Manager, go to the application and hold down Ctrl+Alt+Backspace. The values here are initially set to 30 and 25 seconds. Typically, it is recommended to set the values to 10 mins (600 seconds), but this may vary depending on your network.
